The Dizzy heights of the Top of Europe

So today we took the train to the highest station in Europe. We went here last June but the weather was against us then because we couldn’t see a thing from the top due to cloud and snow !! However today was a lovely clear day and you could already see the top before we had left the chalet.

The train trip takes about 50mins and has a couple of stops on the way to help you acclimatise. We definately felt a little lightheaded walking around at the top, so you just have to take it slow when moving about. It was fantastic to be able to head outside onto the glacier and sit out there and soak up some of the sunshine. Unfortunately the outside activities like sledging and tubing weren’t running because they had a problem with the tow, but it was still fun to walk about.

We stayed up there for about 1 1/2 hours before catching the train down, however we jumped off at the Eigergletscher station which is the stop before Kleine Scheidegg, and we walked part of the Eiger Trail for about 3 miles down to KS for lunch. It took about 2 hours to do this walk only because it was very steep, narrow with loose rocks under foot for the first mile…..not for the faint hearted ;/

But it was all worth it when we reached KS and sat and had a nice cold beer !!
