Big Kids in Aviemore
So today we took one of our nephews,Tom, up to Aviemore for the day. We had prebooked a quad bike trek and Segway taster session at the Rothiemurchus estate. I can total recommend this if you’re ever up in Aviemore at any time. We had a fantastic , if knackering day !
We spent an hour on the quad bike trek led by Emma. She took us around some great tracks on the estate where we saw some deer and other wildlife on the way, and finishe up with a drive down the river !
Then after that we went to the other side of the estate to meet up with our Segway instructor, Tom. The Segways were strange and difficult to master, but after about 5 mins we all seemed to be whizzing up and down the field. Big Tom created a wee obstacle course for us to navigate….and then we were off to the long grass !! I was the first causality, and found myself being thrown off after a wheel caught a rock hidden in the grass ! Of course there was much laughter from the others 😉
Now we had ‘mastered’ the flat surfaces we were allowed to progress to the hill. It wasn’t so much a hill than a mound of earth. However trying to climb the slope on one of these things proved more difficult than it looked. We then had our second causality when Dave took a dive nearly wiping me out at the same time. It seem nethew Tom was the only one to truly master the Segway and managed to stay firmly planted on it for the whole 1/2 hr.
Then we headed to get some well deserved lunch before heading up the funicular railway at Cairngorm.
